The Core Issue: While the City of Fort Wayne is a well-known entity, not enough people recognize the need to properly maintain storm drains. This negligence threatens the water supply and infrastructure functionality.
Many residents simply don't understand how their individual actions impact the broader environmental system.
Beyond engagement, the City needed to learn the specific knowledge gaps people have to adjust future messaging.
We asked: Would it be easiest to learn about drain care through a boring pamphlet, or an engaging quiz?
We created a quiz and sent it to a large database of Fort Wayne residents. Questions covered proper disposal methods, storm drain maintenance, river system knowledge, and community cleanup. This allowed us to gauge awareness and educate simultaneously.
We used Federated Media's Morning Show Teams created videos as educational companions distributed alongside the quiz. Visual learning reinforced the content, helping residents better understand their role in environmental protection.
To drive participation, the incentive for taking the quiz was that everyone was entered to win prizes related to environmental stewardship.
