Hot A/C stations are the ones you turn your dial to when you want to hear the hot hits of today and those from the past 20 years. No, contrary to popular belief, the 80s weren’t 20 years ago – we’re talking music from 2024 back to the early 2000s. Feel old yet?
Let’s take a closer look at just who’s listening to Froggy 102.7 and 97.3 WMEE so you can get a better understanding of the audience you’re advertising to.
The Stations at a Glance
When you turn on Froggy in the car, rest assured that the content is safe for (and enjoyed by) the entire family. This station serves Elkhart County specifically, covering a 10 mile radius with over 22,000 weekly listeners. The top artists include Ed Sheeran, Selena Gomez, Maroon 5, Taylor Swift, and Shawn Mendes.
If WMEE was a person, it’d be the mom who’s always on the go. You know what she looks like; she drives her kids so many places that her minivan is like her second home. WMEE serves the greater Fort Wayne market and has over 110,200 weekly listeners, many who fit this mold, with a 70 mile radius. Its top artists include Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Post Malone and Sabrina Carpenter.
Demographics
Froggy is pretty evenly dispersed between male and female listeners, with the guys coming out ahead by a hair with 54% and the ladies ranking at 46%. The majority of listeners are between the ages of 25-34 and 45-54 years of age, making them Millennials and Gen X.
WMEE’s female listener base is noticeably higher than the male, sitting at 66.7% to males’ 33.3%. Like we said, most are moms zipping to and fro in their minivans and SUVs, so it makes sense that the most popular age range is between 35-44, but the 25-34 crowd enjoy listening to WMEE, too.
Employment and Income
You’re more likely to find full-time workers listening to Froggy – those who make between $100k-$150k per year, to be exact. The largest employers for this listener base include The University of Notre Dame, St. Joseph Health System and Beacon Health System.
WMEE’s listeners work at the GM plant, Raytheon, and in the general medical field, with most being employed full-time and making between $75k-$100k per year. A notable percentage works part-time, though, and makes between $50k-$75k per year.
Marriage, Homeownership, and Education
While a good chunk of Froggy listeners are married, those who are single and have never been married shouldn’t be forgotten! Most listeners also own their home and have a moderate amount of education under their belts – with most being high school graduates or those who hold GEDs.
WMEE listeners are also mostly married. Though the majority of this group owns their home like Froggy’s audience, they have more education. While high school graduates (or GED holders) come in first, many WMEE listeners also have some college education or are college graduates.
Hot A/C and the Community
Froggy and WMEE both value their respective communities. Froggy makes a point to keep their finger on the pulse of what’s happening around town, with their “Froggy Padio” popping up around Elkhart County every few days.
As for other events, Froggy has hosted/hosts:
- Frog Days of Summer
- Froggy Night Lights
- Pink is the New Green
- Countdown to Christmas
And Froggy won the 2021 Cardinal Community Service Award.
Holding events that bring people together is just as important to WMEE, who hosts:
- An Annual Baby Fair and Family Expo
- Pick Your Purse
- Pretty In Pink
WMEE received IBA Community Awards from 2016-2019 and was named the Indiana Broadcasters Association Station of the Year in 2019.
